First time poster here. Looking for some help building out my e-commerce store. I run a business that sells fine jewelry across websites like Amazon, Walmart, eBay, etc…. and now we're excited to launch our own store and sell directly to customers. It seems like Shopify is the obvious choice for us and we're currently in the planning stage, where we've hit what seems to be a major road block and I'm hoping this sub may be able to help us.
Our product category has a ton of attributes, which we capture in our internal catalog tool. Attributes including items such as metal weight, metal color, metal stamp, diamond clarity, diamond color, gemstone type etc….
Goal 1: We want to map these attributes in Shopify, so I can easily import all our items into shopify from our catalog. We have 2000+ skus and we're constantly adding new items. By having this set up, we can make the initial import a relative breeze as well as be able to import future items very quickly.
Goal 2: We want to then use these attributes to create filters on the site, so customers can filter and search for items much more easily, similar to how they can on Amazon, Walmart, and other sites, which I will reference below.
It seems like there is no easy way to do this on Shopify, and requires a combination of tags, metafields, and 3rd party plug ins. Before I go down this rabbit hole, I was wondering what other shopify folks would recommend or if Shopify might not be the right platform for me. Perhaps Magento would be a better option but I also understand that Shopify is easier to build on top of.
I am open to having someone/some agency do this for me, but I want to make sure I understand what needs to be done, so I know how to hire accordingly.
Thanks in advance!
