Trying to understand customer behavior

Hello guys 🙂

I got an ecommerce project running for about 2 month and I made an observation I'd like to talk about and maybe your input can help me/us:

A lot of people press add to cart. However, they either close the website immediatly afterwards or they go back to the product page, scroll a little and then leave. Through hotjar, I can see what they are doing. Some really seem like bots, as they go on the website, hardly scroll and just click the buttons on landing and product page to land in the cart and then leave instantly.

Are these just lost leads, that already went farther into the funnel than expected or is there a chance to convert them?
I already thought about bringing them into the checkout instead of the cart, so that there's one less button click.

What's your take on this?
