Sold more products than I have (ran out of inventory)

Had an error in my Shopify inventory and it said I had more product than I actually did. I ended up doing 10 orders but I do not have the product to fulfill the orders. My next inventory shipment will be here in 10 days. I can't decide on how to proceed with this. Should I just refund the customers and call it a day or send out an email and explain the situation.
