Trust badges – do i just put an image on my product page? Or is there more to this?

I have searched for a while and have not found a definite answer. For shopify store they suggest installing an app that just shows trust badges on your product page. But what is the point in trust badges if I can just put all the trust badges i want on my product page? They are just images and nothing more?
