So I used Aliexpress for personal use and was happy with it. The experience was always you pay a lump sum for the product and then that is it.
I recently bought from Taobao for the first time and was amazed that after you pay for the goods, once the seller confirms, you gotta pay again (like a shipping and custom/cross border fee..I can't really translate well as it was written in Chinese) before they ship the product and this fee was unexpectedly high. For example, I bought a really cute hat and the cross border/custom/delivery fee was 20usd.
Is this new or is this specific to taobao? Wth is this and wouldn't this impact e-commerce sellers? Note: the above was my buying for personal use but just curious how this impacts e-commerce sellers in US.
