Overwhelmed with ecommerce options

Hi, all! Seeking your advice on this…

We're looking for an ecommerce platform that's the most cost efficient and simple.

Background: – I run a small business with 2 other friends. We sell clothes for men. – we all have full time jobs and have no tech background, so we're hoping to go for an option that's the easiest and efficient I.e. try to minimize our day to day efforts

Our objective is to create an ecommerce website that has basic ecommerce functions (cart, discount codes, detailing of SKUs, etc). We will also do some content marketing. This will be supported via ad placements thru Facebook and Instagram.

Our issue is that there are so many options and it can be quite confusing. Read through a lot of articles, but still at a loss.

  1. Shopify looks promising. Is this the cheapest option out there. I know it's 29 dollars + domain name fee

  2. I see wordpress is an option. What I'm confused is that how come some people recommend a combination of wordpress + ECWID / Woocommerce, when WordPress itself has a payment plan specific to ecommerce already?

Thank you in advance!

Gouging people with shipping

Just a quick vent.

If you're going to charge outrageous amounts for shipping, especially while still using the "economy" shipping method and believing that your customers (or rather, the customers you just lost) don't know that you're trying to gouge them (we know you get huge business discounts from the carriers), expect to lose even more business to e-commerce giants like Amazon.

Amazon already has everything you're selling, and they don't try to fuck you with shipping charges.

Food for thought.

Ecommerce LLC checklist

Hello all. I'm in the process of getting the information I need to startup an LLC for print on demand/print on demand fulfillment (like Printful) using storefronts like Shopify.

I'm planning on using ZenBusiness to get things set up, and I'm going to get a mailbox with UPS so that I have a physical address for company business, as I don't want to use my home address whatsoever.

I'm in WA state so I've been looking at all the licenses I need, which I believe ZenBusiness helps with.

I don't plan on having a physical store.

Just looking for suggestions I need to add to my checklist as I continue the creation process.

Thanks!

Best shopify themes to help with sales on e-commerce sites?

I have a basic theme for my shopify store and it really doesn’t have a lot of options and my website is my weakest area for my business. I know there are shopify themes and also theme forest options, wondering if there’s any you would suggest that can help with sales and have nice options? Any suggestions would be great!

Marketing products with celebrity artwork

If I were to draw a piece of artwork of a celebrity wearing a product of mine as a way to promote the product, would this be illegal? I ask because there seems to be risks with using celebrities for marketing a product without consent, however in this case it is intentionally a false advertisement because it is an illustration rather than a real photograph of them. Just an idea that popped into my head.

Potential Paypal scam?

So, somebody purchased from my shopify store about 2 weeks ago. The address is in Hong Kong, and for some reason shopify said "address not recognized" and I had to cancel the order. I get an email from the customer asking why it was cancelled. I explained why and she said that the PayPal was deleted so it got refunded to nowhere. I checked and it was true — it said refund failed, sender not active.

So I was just about to send the $ to her new paypal when I realized this may be a scam. Is there any chance I send the money and end up getting a chargeback from the previous account? Not sure how that's possible since it seems it's been deleted, but I recognize there's some potential this was intentional — fake address that they know won't print, delete paypal account, send $ to diff account.

Only $122 but rather safe than sorry. What should I do? Make her wait out the full 2-3 months until it can't be charged back? I don't really want to waste time calling paypal for something that's ultimately not my problem (yet here I am wasting time on reddit lol, at least I enjoy this whereas I fucking hate being stuck on the phone w/ customer service)

Customers asking about sustainability – drop shipping clothing store

Hey guys, Ive been running a kids clothing store for a few months now, and since we are seeing high traffic lately, Ive had several prospective customers ask about our sustainability practices, and to know more about the materials and processes used. Always something along the lines of "love the brand – but you don't mention anything about sustainability".

At this stage, we're just drop shipping from China, so needless to say i don't think these suppliers engage in sustainable practices. The longer term goal is to produce our own stock, but it's just not viable in these early stages.

I'm seeking advice on the best way to respond to these customers – what would you guys do? Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.

Cheers!

Critique my Website: A platform that makes e-commerce stores more accessible to shoppers

Hey Everyone! I recently created a website called Owlo.co to make small e-commerce stores more accessible to shoppers and I would love your feedback to make it better. As a former e-commerce store owner, I know it is difficult to gain traction and customers amid the MASSIVE marketplaces out there so I thought of an idea that would give us a fighting chance through unity. Owlo.co is a platform that allows shoppers to browse and sort e-commerce stores and deals to find the shops that fit their needs. Not only does this give shoppers a chance to support small businesses, but it also helps them browse through products they may be interested in. There is also a feature that allows customers to post a query if they are not sure what to buy, which stores can then reply to and craft a better customer experience. Currently, the service is free for both stores and shoppers.

I am currently in the process of testing this platform to see if it is a viable opportunity to pursue and would love to hear your thoughts about this. What are some features that you would like to see in such a platform to improve your connection with customers? Would you use a service like this, and if not, what are some alternatives you are currently using to make your store easily accessible to shoppers?

Thank you so much for taking the time, and I would love to hear all your questions and comments!

Is it for you to sell things for cryptocurrency?

One of the things that I am curious about is, "Is it hard for you to sell things for cryptocurrency. If so, why or why not?

Is it logistic? Is it scalability? Is legal liability?

I'm curious and I would like to know.
