The realm of e-commerce has so many tutorials and information that you can use to run your shop successfully, but let's help you get the basics down:
Shopify Account Creation
This includes the basics of what you’re going to call your store, how long you’ve had your store active, and any payment information.
Get creative! There are tons of free Shopify themes that let you show off the type of store you’re building. If you’re looking for a little more than the free Shopify themes can offer, then you have the option to buy themes that suit your store.
SEO is your best friend. Although I explain how to create a listing, you want to make sure you’re doing 3 things with your Shopify listings.
- Provide a good description; don’t jut provide dimensions, tell a story. If you’re selling handmade items, you can talk about your process, or if you’re dropshipping you can talk about what problem your product is solving.
- Use keywords. Everyone uses Google and the better Google can read your store the more relevant customers will get directed to your items. You can find the right Keywords to use with the Google Adwords Keyword Planner.
- Catch their attention. Posting the best picture of your product is crucial. Take pictures of all the important angles and if you can, place them in backgrounds or areas that match the vibe of your shop. This helps with increasing the perceived value of your product.
Shopify gives you a 14-day free trial to see if you like the platform and if it works for your business. I don’t think that’s enough time to fully see the effects, so my recommendation would be to get everything prepped before hand. Do your keyword research, get your pics, build a following, etc. Once you have the basic work done then the 14-day trial can really give you a better look at if it’s worth paying for Shopify.
There are many stores with the default [storename].myshopify link. Although it does have your store name, it isn’t really recommended since less people will be able to find your store and it also doesn’t look that trustworthy. If you’re just starting out, this is an investment you want to make!
