What to do about a bad TrustPilot review?

I have had my first 1 star review on TrustPilot (third overall, the other two 5 star).

The review simply reads didn’t get my item, don’t buy! I was quite surprised as my store is new and the poster purchased the item when it was pre order. The item was shipped about 8 days ago from the UK to Canada and the reviewer didn’t reach out before posting. Had he done so I would have reiterated that delivery can be up to 14 days, subject to delay etc.

The item is insured but not tracked due to the relative value of the goods v the cost of tracked mail. My intention is to issue replacements via tracked mail for any that go missing as this would still work out cheaper.

I have replied to the review and reached out to the reviewer by email however I am concerned that this review could have a lasting negative effect on the business.

Has anyone had this experience before. Whilst the review isn’t factually I correct I do feel it is unfair and misleading given we are still within the delivery window (and assuming it arrives on time).

All advice appreciated.

Would you give custom names to your products?

I've just started a new dropshipping jewelry store. To make it more personal and genuine, I've thought about giving custom names to my products.

For example, a silver bracelet could be called "Moonbeam".

This would make the SEO worse, but maybe it would help optimise the conversion rate.

Any thoughts on this?

How to determine what to sell?

Hey everyone,

I run a marketing agency and I've successfully ran many Facebook campaigns for multiple clients in the last couple of years.

I've recently decided to put all my FB and IG ads knowledge and skills to work and actually try my hand at running an ecommerce store. The problem is, while I have the marketing background needed, I'm not sure how you ecommerce experts decide on what products to sell.

Sure, I could do some market research and maybe I'd get some answers, but after working with so many ecommerce stores and serial entrepreneurs, I get the feeling some of you actually know something most of us doesn't when it comes to picking a product to sell.

Could you perhaps give me some tips? I'm willing to help you back with some marketing advice if you want to 😉

Thanks

Customer phone calls for shipment tracking or RMs, am I the only one that gets a lot?

I think part of our problem is we specialize in products that are mainly geared to boomers. So they are not the most technical people. We do use a shopify app (tracktor) that gives all of the shipping information in emails and links on our site. But we still get a ton of calls.

Am I the only one in this boat? Or is it a common thing? We are spending in excess of 2-3 hours a day on the phone just updating people on shipping.

Chicago Flag Store review/advice needed

Hi guys,

www.chicagoflagstore.com

I am new to this, so was hoping you could offer some critiques/advice. We are a 60 year old family print shop in Chicago that is dipping its toes in B2C since we already do a lot of B2B. We do everything under one roof (laser, screen print, anything)…we design/print/ship all from Chicago. This store is just one concept, we can print/engrave anything on anything.

Soon we will have a customizable feature similar to customink and we will have more products such as glassware, hats, coasters etc. I'm holding off on spending a lot on ads until this stuff happens, so really just doing alt text and some social media posts right now..does that make sense? Our google page ranking has gone up quite a bit over the last month.

Thanks!

Paying royalties/Licensing IP vs selling to retailer

I have a concept football shirt brand, launched a couple of months ago that has been fairly successful. I am in contact with a well known wrestler to make a jersey inspired by him. Would it be more beneficial to:

Pay to license/pay royalties for each sale OR sell the jerseys to said wrestler at let’s say half the retail value for him to resell.

How would I go about deciding what the royalty/licensing fee is – is there an industry standard?

Any tips and recommendations are appreciated as this is my first venture into working with other brands (would also appreciate any guides etc to working with other brands).

Website is blcksmth.co.uk if you want to check it out
