Using 2020 as a Benchmark year for growth

As many know, 2020 was a pretty succesful year for e-commerce in general, due to certain circumstances.
Now, the company i work for is in an industry that profited from the virus more than some others last year. I have heard from a lot of people that they pretty much just omitted 2020 from their records in terms of growth / revenue projection.
Now our boss keeps insisting on using 2020 as the benchmark for every goal this year, and for obvious reasons, while the numbers are actually pretty good, they just look bad due to the fact that 2020 was such an insane year.

What is the common consensus regarding this?
