What are the main store metrics to look at while optimizing Shopify store conversions?

Hi All,
What are the main store metrics that you look at to decide what part of the store to optimize? Do you primarily look at the design and try to align it to a best in class design and design review or do you look at any specific metrics like time spent on page, click patterns and funnel drop off rates?
