Proper cost of item calculation in Shopify

This is my cross-post from r/shopify

This seems like a relatively easy topic, but I just can't find a solution.

In the Shopify each product has a "Cost per item" field where, apparently, I need to enter a cost of the item for future margin, profit and other calculations to be correct. But I, and probably most of you, have shipping expenses when purchasing from supplier. Even more, most of the time I pay a shipping fee to a freight forwarder for multiple combined products.
Here is an example to speak numbers:

  1. 10 x item1 – $10 each, total $100
  2. 5 x item2 – $5 each, total $25
  3. total shipping $50

So In this case I'm paying $175 in total. How do I calculate my "cost per item" in Shopify? I'm guessing it's going to be item cost + average shipping fee per item based on the overall quantity of products? If yes then how am I suppose to automate that?

I believe there must be a way, an app or something. Clearly I'm not the only one with this concern.

Thanks in advance!
