New Venture Selling Specialty Automotive Parts – Shopify vs Woocommerce

My first startup was in an adjacent space with specialty automotive parts. We used Shopify and it was pretty decent, but some of the ideas I had along the way never got implemented; specifically around loyalty program and advanced coupon handling.

Shopify was pretty easy, and most of what we want to do is relatively straightforward, but it feels like as soon as I venture outside of "plain vanilla" functionality, Shopify gets pretty expensive. As an example, comparing custom coupon add-ins for Shopify vs Woocommerce (that had similar functionality), the Shopify one was almost $500/yr where the other was $150/yr.

Also, for the record, I am a bit of a programmer (not currently, but for many years professionally) but this venture is about making car parts, not spending time either writing new features or troubleshooting website stuff not working right.

So, for those of you who are using one or the other (or have switched between them), any specific thoughts? It's hard to tell from "online reviews" because most are backed by someone and less-than-objective. Any regrets or victories with either?
