Day 1 of 5
This is my gift to all of you e-commerce owners who don't have an email strategy set up for next month. Or wonder if yours is set up correctly.
So buckle up. Here we go…
Get out a legal pad or mind mapping software or even a napkin. We're gonna do some writing.
Let's get our email strategy solid.
What??? You don't have an email strategy?
That's job #1
I believe if you have a e-commerce business you should ONLY be using Klaviyo. For Reals as the kids say. Nothing else I've used for e-comm comes close. Shopify has its own email service but if you are in it to win it, go to your apps section in Shopify or Woocommerce or whatever (better not be Wix or Squarespace) search for Klaviyo and add it to your store. You get a free trial for Christ's sake.
Next break out that legal pad and pen and write up top BF/CM Email Strategy
Under that write out:
- Abandoned Cart – Day 2
- Browse Abandonment – Day 3
- Order Confirmation – Day 4
- After the Sale – Day 5
Each one of those emails sequences will be covered over the next 4 remaining days in pretty good detail without getting so technical I lose you. Let's face it, you have a business to run. Learning one more thing is prob just not on your list of fun things to do.
Write down this one phrase:
I will not be like every other e-commerce owner. I will not follow and do what big brands do with their email marketing. I will do things differently that are proven to work for so many other successful e-commerce owners who run their businesses with a small group of people. I will create well written story based emails that grab potential and new customer's attention and cause them to become part of the business. These customers will be my unpaid salesforce who will buy from me over and over and tell all their family friends about my business. My email marketing will be set up so I have the greatest chance of turning opportunity into success.
Ok, let's unpack that and wrap up day 1.
I will not be like every other e-commerce owner:
I could swing a dead cat in Shopify's back office and hit a thousand companies who either don't have their email marketing setup or they try to emulate what a big brand does.
STOP! STOP! STOP! You are NOT Nike!
I will not follow and do what big brands do with their email marketing. I will do things differently that are proven to work like so many other successful e-commerce owners who run their businesses with a small group of people.
These big companies are successful because of their size and brand recognition (a skill you can develop with spot-on email marketing). They are NOT successful because of email marketing but in spite of it.
I will create well written story based emails that grab potential customer's and new customer's attention and entice them to become part of the business.
This, my friend, is the holy grail. The Tom Brady. The one thing that makes an OK e-comm biz into a highly profitable one. Do this sentence correctly and you cannot fail (given you have enough peeps hitting your store- but that's another set of lessons). Read each of those words very carefully. Each one is on purpose and on point. Not because I wrote it. I mean who gives a crap about me? It's about the sale and turning looky-loos into buyers and buyers into RAVING FANS!

Think I'm full of sh*t about this sentence? Think I'm bullsh*tting you all? I have one word to answer any objection you have to this sentence…
My email marketing will be set up so I have the greatest chance of turning opportunity into success.
It all begins with a pad of paper and your mind. If you want to be successful you CANNOT be like everyone else. You have to put yourself out there. You have to "think differently" haha. Apple again. You have to know there's a better way. A way that works.
So I'm sure some of you are saying, "If there aren't many e-comm owners running their email marketing this way how do I know it will work?"
Oh young Padawan, let me tell you..
If you had knowledge that makes you successful and you think life is a zero-sum game would you go out and tell everyone how great your secret to success is?
NO. You'd have your head down running your business, transferring gobs of money into your bank account, and telling your CPA to shut up. Why would you let the cat out of the bag? You know the secret. Why stick your head out there. Let the amateurs learn for themselves. After all it's a business lesson and business lessons are best learned the hard way.
And this is why I'm here, not as a e-comm biz owner (bc I'm not) but as an email copywriter and email marketer clearing the path for you to succeed. If you follow what I say even half-*ssed you'll be way more successful than if you are not doing these things I will tell you about over the next 4 days.
