I’ve recently set up my online store (Grafterscult.com) and haven’t made any sales as of yet. My investment including setting up a website and advertising this year is expected to be at least a couple of hundreds of pounds. (No reward without risk). I placed a sample order with Gelato for 3 t-shirts and it arrived after 4 days and the shipping fees were reasonably low.

However now when I go onto Gelato to place a sample order, the shipping dates are estimated to be 2+ weeks!! delivered to USA and slightly less for the UK. (That definitely won’t retain any customers). Also tax rates for the UK are extortionately high (20% VAT Value Added Tax, even on shipping) which means I will earn around £6 in the UK for selling 2 t-shirts at £26.5 each (I offer free shipping). I will have to sell a few hundred items if I want to break-even never mind make a decent profit.

I was forced to become an entrepreneur as the UK is in recession and I can’t even get a minimum wage job despite having numerous high qualifications: A* and A’s at GCSE, a Btec, 3 A-levels and a current Uni business student.

How long after publishing your E-commerce website did you receive your first sale?

On my shopify settings – payments, I only have Shop Pay in my wallets sections, in the videos i have watched, it seems that they have the option of google pay and apple pay, I do not. My store is based in france, where both should be accepted.

We have about 2500 products and most of our suppliers do not offer product weight and dimensions as part of their product information.

I have got to assume that there are 3D scanners we can use to plop a product on and it measures the dimensional size and weight and outputs it.

Does anyone know of anything like this?

Basically I've been working on a small business project and it is linked to intellectual property, mainly a trademark. I designed something and gave it a name and I want to sell it. I want to source from overseas, likely use Alibaba….

Is there any point in even asking a supplier to sign an exclusive agreement anyways? My physical product can easily have another name placed on it if desired. I strategically chose what I felt was the utmost best name/wording for this product idea currently. All their neighbors down the road in China, or any other country for that matter, have to do is to choose a different word/name and basically produce the item. Keep in mind, this even happens here in the USA when you visit a retail store and you either buy a name brand or you buy the store brand….

I think Elon Musk even said he wasn't worried about people using their technology but if they use it in some inappropriate manner than he intends to come after them….

I have a supplier on Alibaba whom I strategically worked with and am wanting to use. They even have a short video explaining how they are willing to sign an exclusive agreement for the products. I know what that means but in reality I'm not sure what the point is…. I can go after Amazon and Walmart marketplace and others here in the USA to register my brand name with them to keep "copy-cats" out on the trademark situation. There is nothing I can do about the actual physical product though.

I am wondering what interesting thoughts someone might have in here as there have been a few good thoughts from time to time. I'm currently thinking that it might be better for me to just let the supplier/manufacturer do whatever they want except DO NOT CROSS THE BOUNDARY and use my trademark name & wording. It would seem that I wouldn't be able to keep anyone anywhere from making the physical product no matter if it's my supplier or if its someone other copy-manufacturer.

I'm almost convinced that the online marketplaces are doing a reasonable job by cleaning up that "copy" product and initiating "brand registry" and things like that….

I am currently using Shopifys Debut theme but am quickly outgrowing it. Limited features, very difficult to optimize for both mobile and PC…and the list goes on. At this point in my journey I would have to say a paid theme is a no Brainer. When did you feel your store needed to improve with a better UX? Was it depended on growth and sales?

Looking to hear from anyone that has upgraded shopify themes and any challenges that came with it. Open to hear theme suggestions as well ( preferably paid ones)

So my warehouse want me to have my products barcoded and as of yet since its just lil old me, i haven't needed to.

I have SKUs that look like this:

santorini-blue-xl
santorini-blue-m

etc

I need to create barcode image of these SKUs so that the warehouse can scan them

I have tried using some barcode makers but EAN and UPC barcodes dont accept my SKU format? I'm a little confused. Please help someone!! Thanks xx
